Deacons
The Deacons of Bethany Baptist Church are here to serve you. Please feel free to contact any of them regarding your needs.
Lora Faulconer:
One of the first two women to serve as a Deacon at Bethany Baptist Church, Lora is constantly involved in missionary and outreach activities. Whether it’s helping prepare food baskets for shut-ins or coordinating the Christmas collection of dolls, bears, stockings, and coats in conjunction with the Salvation Army, Lora is a visible reminder of the presence of Christ among us. Lora is married to Matt (also a deacon, presently inactive) and has one son, Aaron. Out of church, you may run into Lora at one of the local antique shops or craft shows, as these are also her passions. Lora was ordained in September of 2002.

Al Baker:
Allen Baker has been a member of Bethany all his life and has been an ordained Deacon longer than any other active Deacon at Bethany. Al has family roots at Bethany that extend back many generations. Ordained in November 1964, Al is a retired meat cutter, and he still cuts up with his great sense of humor. Al can usually be found on Sunday mornings greeting and ushering.
Emmitt Marshall:
Everybody knows Emmitt! Not only at Bethany, but throughout Spotsylvania County and the surrounding areas. Emmitt Marshall is well known for his statesmanship and leadership. He is a longtime Spotsylvania County Supervisor representing the Berkeley District. Emmitt is also a longtime member and Deacon at Bethany. Ordained in October 1965, Emmitt has served many terms as a BBC Deacon. Along with his lovely wife, Viola, Emmitt is a fixture at Bethany Baptist Church.

Bobby Orrock:
Bobby is perhaps the most widely recognized member of the Bethany Deacon body. Maybe its because he and his family go back many generations and have always been active members. Or maybe its because he teaches at Spotsylvania High School and so many people have crossed his path there. Or could it be his familiar voice on Sunday mornings on a local radio station, hosting “The Gospel Show”. Or maybe the fact that he’s an elected member of the Virginia House of Delegates, representing Caroline and Spotsylvania Counties. At Bethany, we just think he’s a loved and treasured guy! Bobby has been an ordained Deacon at BBC since October of 1981, and is the current Deacon Chairman.
Alice Allen:
Alice is one of the first people you think of when Bethany Baptist Church is mentioned. Alice loves the Lord and serves Him tirelessly: teaching children in Sunday School, singing in the choir and in a gospel quartet, serving as Church Clerk, and doing so many other things that there’s no space to list them all. Alice is one of the first two women elected as Deacons at BBC, having been ordained in September of 2002.
Dickie Bettis:
Have you ever had an up-close and personal encounter with a bear? A really big bear? Well ask Dickie and he’ll tell you all about one. Dickie is a dedicated hunter who also hunts for ways to help at Bethany. An ordained Deacon since September 1995, Dickie is married to Dixie. If you have a need, Dickie will come-a-runnin! But don’t growl – Dickie might think you’re a bear!
