Deacons

Allen Baker has been a member of Bethany all his life and has been an ordained Deacon longer than any other active Deacon at Bethany. Al has family roots at Bethany that extend back many generations. Ordained in November 1964, Al is a retired meat cutter, and he still cuts up with his great sense of humor. Al can usually be found on Sunday mornings greeting and ushering.

 

 

 

 

 

Have you ever had an up-close and personal encounter with a bear? A really big bear? Well ask Dickie and he’ll tell you all about one. Dickie is a dedicated hunter who also hunts for ways to help at Bethany. An ordained Deacon since September 1995, Dickie is married to Dixie. If you have a need, Dickie will come-a-runnin! But don’t growl – Dickie might think you’re a bear!

 

 

 

 

 

Matt Faulconer has been a member of Bethany since 1986, and has been a Deacon since 1988. Matt is an “electric” man, being employed by Rappahannock Electric Coop. Matt is involved in so many behind-the-scenes functions at Bethany that it's impossible to list them all. Some of them, however, include teaching Sunday School, properties & grounds maintenance, and personnel. Matt and his wife Lora (also an active Deacon), married for 26 years, have one son Aaron.

 

 

 

 

 

Judy Reid is a long-time member of Bethany and has been an ordained Deacon here since October 2003. Judy and her husband Nelson (also an active Deacon) are much loved at Bethany, teaching Sunday School classes and serving in many other capacities. Outside the church, Judy loves horses, especially miniature horses, and has driven a Spotsylvania County school bus for many years. Judy is always ready to help!

 

 

 

 

 

Everybody knows Emmitt! Not only at Bethany, but throughout Spotsylvania County and the surrounding areas, Emmitt Marshall is well known for his statesmanship and leadership. A longtime Spotsylvania County Supervisor representing the Berkeley District, Emmitt is also a longtime member and Deacon at Bethany. Ordained in October 1965, Emmitt has served many terms as a BBC Deacon. Along with his lovely wife Viola, Emmitt is a fixture at Bethany Baptist Church.

Nelson Reid, has been a part of Bethany for a long time. Nelson was ordained as a Deacon in 1992, and has faithfully served the church in many roles, including as a past and current chairman (2009-2010) of the Deacons. Nelson is also a church Trustee. Nelson is known around church as the one who ensures that the doors are locked and the lights are out. Nelson's wife Judy is also an active Deacon at Bethany.
