Rev. Benjamin (Ben) Thomas
 
Rev. Thomas was born and reared in Alabama. His father is a semi-retired cattle farmer and his mother is a retired teacher.   They reside in LaFayette, Alabama. Ben is married to Susan Hobeck from Culpeper, Virginia. They have four children: Elizabeth (13), William (11), Caroline (7) and Jonathan (4). Susan has degrees in music and in education. She taught elementary school in Culpeper and Southampton County before their children were born.
 
Ben has a degree in Wildlife Biology from Auburn University. He has a Master of Divinity degree from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has served as a campus minister, youth minister, and an associate minister. Prior to coming to Bethany, Ben served as pastor of these Virginia churches: Boykins Baptist Church, Stuart Baptist Church and West End Baptist Church in Petersburg.
 
Ben has been very involved in Virginia Baptist life as well as the local associations where he was serving. He has served on the Virginia Baptist Mission Board; the Co-Missioners Council of the Mission Board; the Christian Life Committee of the Baptist General Association of Virginia; and, the Partnership Missions representative from two associations. Ben also recently served on the Resolutions Committee of the Baptist General Association of Virginia. Ben has served in various roles in local Baptist associations and in local ecumenical ministerial groups. He has been very involved with short term missions projects, as a participant and a leader.
 
In his free time Ben enjoys sports (playing and watching), fishing, hunting, and gardening.
